SUMMARY:Migration with Dignity
DESCRIPTION:Please join the Ignatian Social Justice Ministry to hear and engage with Joanna Williams\, Executive Director of the bi-national Kino Border Initiative in Nogales\, Arizona\, and Nogales\, Sonora\, Mexico. Their mission consists of direct humanitarian assistance & holistic accompaniment of migrants\, education & encounter between migrants and others that transforms people and communities towards solidarity with migrants\, and policy advocacy in Mexico & the United States. \nJoanna Williams\, who has served at Kino since 2015\, is a Georgetown University graduate and a leader in the movement for “Migration with Dignity” for our asylum-seeking brothers and sisters along the United States-Mexico border. In 2008 and 2009 in Nogales\, Arizona\, and Nogales\, Sonora\, Mexico\, this work was begun by six organizations: the California Province of the Society of Jesus\, Jesuit Refugee Service/USA\, the Missionary Sisters of the Eucharist\, the Mexican Province of the Society of Jesus\, the Diocese of Tucson\, and the Archdiocese of Hermosillo. Its purpose is to break down barriers to humane\, just\, and workable migration\, affirming human dignity and solidarity. \nKino has won the “Legacy of Martyrs” and the WOLA Human Rights awards and was a finalist for the prestigious Opus Prize and the Lumen Christi Award. Ms. Williams will report on Kino’s recent work in these challenging times and will take questions from the audience.
