SUMMARY:Ukraine\, the Holy See\, and the Just War Tradition
DESCRIPTION:PRESENTER: Pavlo Smytsnyuk\nUkrainian Catholic Theologian & Fellow at Princeton University\n\nPavlo Smytsnyuk will return to St. Ignatius Loyola to offer a presentation on the subject\, Ukraine\, the Holy See and the Just War Tradition. Since the Second Vatican Council\, the Holy See has taken an increasingly strong position in rejection of war because of the devastation\, civilian casualties\, and large-scale deaths of combatants that are characteristic of modern warfare.\n\nThe war in Ukraine presents a unique challenge to the Holy See as Ukraine responds to the invasion of its territory by Russian forces. \nPavlo Smytsnyuk brings a unique perspective to this issue\, so his talk should be both timely and provocative.

SUMMARY:Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Reservation: Y National Service Project
DESCRIPTION:Please join Ignatian Social Justice and the National Y in an inaugural Mission Immersion to build a strong community on the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Reservation! \nThe construction of a new cluster of tiny homes will enable families\, volunteers\, and staff inhabiting the homes to achieve the stability\, independence\, and strength they need to build a more healthy and vibrant community. Immerse yourself in a Lakota Tribe cultural exchange. The group size is about 10 – 20 volunteers per trip (or wave). \nAll service trips include a mix of work\, rest\, and free time. Volunteering on this project is fun\, fast-paced\, and fulfilling. The Sioux YMCA tiny home project not only utilizes your skills and effort to build safe\, affordable homes that are desperately needed on the reservation but also offers an opportunity to become educated in American Indian culture. \nA site-seeing trip is included to experience the incredible Badlands National Park\, Custer State Park\, Black Hills\, Crazy Horse Monument\, and more! We welcome everyone who wants to contribute to this important National Service Project. Previous construction experience is not required\, however manual labor is a part of the trip\, so all participants should be in good health. A COVID vaccine is required. \nCOST AND LODGING: $375/week\nThis fee includes meals in the dining hall\, lodging in the volunteer center bunkhouse\, cultural activities and tours\, training\, a final awards banquet\, and airport shuttles from Rapid City\, Soth Dakota. Lodging for this option is a lower bunk (upper bunk not used) with shared bathrooms. Just like (but more fun than) going to Camp for a week. The cost does not include your airfare to Rapid City\, South Dakota.\nOR\n$175/week – If you arrange for your own lodging. This fee includes meals in the dining hall\, cultural activities and tours\, training\, a final awards banquet\, and airport shuttles from Rapid City\, South Dakota.
