SUMMARY:Lenten Discernment Series: Racial Justice
DESCRIPTION:Begins Monday\, February 7th at 7 PM on Zoom \n  \nLenten Discernment Series: Racial Justice offers an opportunity for education and theological reflection to discern ways we can work for racial justice in our daily lives through the framework of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. \n  \nAs a parish\, we engage in this series on racial justice because working for racial equity stems directly from our call as followers of Jesus. A man of his own culture\, Jesus encountered the Syrophoenician Woman who taught him that his ministry was for all people\, not just the people of Israel. He was able to break out of his preconceived notions shared by his cultural background. \n  \nConsequentially\, Jesus preached a message of radical inclusion and acceptance where all might be freed from chains of division and exclusion. This discernment series invites us to follow the lead of Jesus: to prayerfully consider where we are being invited to grow so that we individually and as a parish may work for racial equity. \n  \nSecondly\, the Universal Apostolic Preferences of the Society of Jesus compel us to “walk with the poor\, the outcasts of the world\, those whose dignity has been violated\, in a mission of reconciliation and justice.” Since our founding as a nation\, many racial minorities have had their dignity violated and have been deemed the outcasts of our society. To take up the call of the Society of Jesus in our own context is to work for racial equity and reconciliation. Our hope as a parish will be more equipped to do this work following this discernment series. \n  \nDiscernment: Racial Justice is sponsored by Ignatian Social Justice and will be meeting via Zoom at 7 PM: February 7th\, February 24th\, March 24th\, and April 7th. There are 43 readings that will be parsed out in groups of 10 readings for each meeting. A discussion will center around the readings with people sharing what moved them most in any of the readings. \n  \nAll are welcome to join in this Lenten Discernment series! Please email Jean Santopatre\, Ignatian Social Justice Pastoral Associate\, to be added to the Flocknote readings at santopatrej@saintignatiusloyola.org.

SUMMARY:Parish Lenten Retreat: From Ashes to Glory
DESCRIPTION:Jogues Retreat Center | Cornwall\, New York \nThis year’s Lent can be different. It will take an openness to God’s grace\, a deep desire to receive what is being offered us\, and a few signs and symbols to help us stay focused. \nThe retreat will be a blend of silent and preached. There will be large chunks of time for silent prayer\, and in general\, the atmosphere will be recollected and peaceful. Three brief reflections are offered to ‘prime the pump.’With a maximum number of 15 retreatants\, there will be occasions for sharing our faith and time for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. On Saturday evening we will watch a film and have a glass of wine. We will pray Morning Prayer together\, and Sunday Mass\, followed by lunch\, will close the retreat. \nJoin us for a weekend of restful prayer in an atmosphere of hope and shared faith. \nThis parish retreat is fully subsidized by a generous donor.  \nSpaces are limited. \nFor information and to register\, contact Fr. Hilbert at silparishretreat@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:Tuesday Night Book Group: Saturday Midday Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:Join the Tuesday Night Book Group on a Saturday Midday Field Trip to hear a one-hour talk on St. Gregory of Nyssa (335-95)\, an early influential figure who has been hailed as “the father of Christian mysticism.” Whether ascending Mount Sinai with Moses\, or the Sermon on the Mount with Jesus\, or from created things to the Transcendent Beauty with the Neo-Platonists\, this Cappadocian Father helps us encounter the “luminous darkness” of the mystery of God.  This will be followed by an optional two-hour guided meditation based on St. Gregory’s writings from 1 PM to 3 PM. \nTo register to attend and to receive a complimentary copy of the book Gregory of Nyssa: The Life of Moses\, which is considered one of the most important books in the study of Christian mysticism (and retells the story of Moses’s life from the biblical account in Exodus and Numbers\, and then refers back to these stories as the basis for profound spiritual lessons)\, email tuesdaynightbookgroup@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:I Believe in Love: A Personal Retreat Based On the Teachings of St. Therese of Lisieux by Fr. Jean C.J. D’Elbee
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, November 1st to Tuesday\, January 17th at 7 PM\nOn Zoom\nThough she died at age 24\, St. Therese of Lisieux’s contributions have been so remarkable that she was named one of only 37 Doctors of the Church\, and one of only 4 women among them. At first glance\, many have made the mistake of dismissing her writings as “overly sentimental\,” but countless intellectuals (including Dorothy Day\, Thomas Merton\, Jacques Philippe\, and Edith Stein) have returned to a deeper examination of her work to deem her a warrior—“though her battles are for love by means of love\, for peace by means of peace\,” in the words of Hans Urs von Balthasar. \nLikewise\, Bishop Robert Barron began to see Therese as she was: a rather “tough cookie” who\, because humility is truth\, understood who she was in the sight of God and worked within that grace with a pragmatic directness that came to define her “Little Way”: a willingness to\, in every moment\, in every situation\, ask the central question of surrender—What is the demand of love?—and then choose it. \nA spiritual classic\, I Believe in Love has long been beloved for its wondrous distillation of the teachings of St. Therese into a reader-friendly set of 10 meditations\, and as an invaluable companion along our journey to union with God. \nAuthor Fr. Jean C.J. D’Elbee was a French priest who beautifully conveys in this book the spirit of St. Therese and her message of joyful confidence and total abandonment to the Heart of Jesus. \nThis series will be co-led by Karen Page with Robert Giugliano\, Ph.D.\, longtime psychologist\, spiritual director\, and former Fordham adjunct faculty member who wrote his master’s dissertation on St. Therese of Lisieux. \nTo receive the Zoom link for this series\, email TuesdayNightBookGroup@gmail.com. \nSCHEDULE\nTuesday\, November 1 | Conference 1: Love for Love \nTuesday\, November 8 | Conference 2: Humble Confidence \nTuesday\, November 15 | Conference 3: Unshakable Confidence \nTuesday\, November 22 | Conference 4: Abandonment to Jesus \nTuesday\, December 6 | Conference 5: Great Desires\, Humility\, and Peace \nTuesday\, December 13 | Conference 6: Fraternal Charity \nTuesday\, December 20 | Conference 7: The Apostolate \nTuesday\, January 3 | Conference 8: The Cross \nTuesday\, January 10 | Conference 9: The Eucharist \nTuesday\, January 17 | Conference 10: Jesus\, Mary\, and the Saints

Jean-Pierre de Caussade\, S.J.\n– Trustful Surrender to Divine Providence by Fr.
