SUMMARY:Miracles Do Happen: God Can Do the Impossible
DESCRIPTION:Do you believe in miracles? \nSister Briege McKenna\, OSC\, does. After entering an Irish convent at age 15\, she was instantaneously healed at age 24 of crippling arthritis that had confined her to a wheelchair—and shortly thereafter she was given the gift of healing. Since then\, 77-year-old Sister Briege has traveled more than 1 million miles to minister hope and healing to countless people in more than 100 countries around the globe\, from huge rallies in Latin America to retreats in Korea\, and will make a rare appearance in Manhattan at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. \nMiracles Do Happen: God Can Do the Impossible tells the story of Sister Briege’s encounters with the healing power of God. It also shares her insights about faith\, the power of the Eucharist\, and the importance of prayer. Most of all\, it points the way to a closer relationship with Jesus\, greater knowledge of his love\, and deeper faith in his power to do the impossible. \nJoin the Tuesday Night Book Group on a field trip for this unique opportunity to hear Sister Briege speak in person on Tuesday\, May 21st\, at 7 PM at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. \nThen join us on Zoom on Tuesday\, May 28th\, at 7 PM to discuss Sr. Briege’s book Miracles Do Happen. \nZoom discussions typically run 75-90 minutes. \nUpcoming Sessions\nTues\, May 21st: In-person talk by Sr. Briege McKenna at St. Patrick’s Cathedral\nTues\, May 28th: Zoom meeting to discuss Miracles Do Happen \nRequired book: Sr. Briege McKenna’s book Miracles Do Happen \nRecommended advance viewing: This YouTube interview with Sister Briege at St. Patrick’s Cathedral from May 2023. \nTo register and receive the Zoom link for this series\, please email “SISTER BRIEGE” to TuesdayNightBookGroup@gmail.com. If you’re able to join us at St. Patrick’s\, please include your cell phone number and we’ll let you know where we end up sitting.

SUMMARY:Tuesday Night Book Group: Contemplative Symposium
DESCRIPTION:Join members of the Tuesday Night Book Group for this rare opportunity to learn and be led toward contemplative prayer by leading experts and authors at the August 8-11 Contemplative Symposium at St. Joseph’s Seminary in Yonkers (33 minutes by train from Grand Central)\, ST. ELIZABETH OF THE TRINITY: The Mystery of Christian Prayer.  \nThis saint’s wisdom is profoundly relevant for the spiritual life today in our noisy culture\, as she reminds us of God’s power to establish in us a profound and peaceful stillness as we receive\, trust\, and surrender to God’s love for us. Authentic contemplative prayer extends the ways we participate in the mystery of God. \nMore than a dozen speakers and presenters include Fr. Donald Haggerty\, who has led retreats for the Missionaries of Charity for decades and is the author of several books including Saint John of the Cross: Master of Contemplation; Dr. Anthony Lilles\, author of Fire from Above: Christian Contemplation and Mystical Wisdom; Julie Enzler\, who translated the book Elizabeth of the Trinity: A Life of Praise to God; Fr. Ignatius John Schweitzer\, who lived in silence as a Carthusian monk for six years until he discerned a call from the Lord to teach others about the spiritual and mystical life; and contemplative nun Sr. Armelle\, who will share her icons and artwork and lead a meditation on St. Elisabeth’s “Trinity Whom I Adore.” \nThe four-day Symposium is $200. One-day passes are $75\, and half-day passes $50. Prices include all meals. Register on Eventbrite.com. All are welcome. \nEmail tuesdaynightbookgroup@gmail.com to connect with others who will also be attending.
