SUMMARY:Tuesday Night Book Group | Lent 2022: St. Teresa of Avila's Nine Grades of Prayer
DESCRIPTION:“Prayer is nothing else than being on terms of friendship with God…Christ does not give himself entirely until he sees that we yield ourselves entirely to him.” – St. Teresa of Avila \nThere is much more to a life of prayer than most people realize! As we seek to powerfully enhance our prayer lives during Lent and beyond\, we turn to a Doctor of the Church whose insights will lead us ever-deeper toward union with God: St. Teresa of Avila. With the help of a series of video lessons narrated by Matthew Leonard\, we’ll explore both active (i.e.\, through our own efforts) and passive (i.e.\, through our receptivity to God’s grace) subcategories of vocal prayer\, meditation\, and contemplation. Join us via Zoom. \nParticipants can receive a free copy of the workbook St. Teresa of Avila’s NINE GRADES OF PRAYER — simply email us your best mailing address. Then sign up for the free series of 14 10-to-15-minute video lessons at ScienceOfSainthood.com. \nRecommended (but optional) Supplemental Reading: St. Teresa of Avila’s THE INTERIOR CASTLE – STUDY EDITION translated and prepared by Kiernan Kavanaugh\, OCD. \nTuesday\, March 29th\, 7-8:15 pm: Deepen your prayer life powerfully this Lent with the help of the revered Doctor of Prayer\, as we study St. Teresa of Avila’s NINE GRADES OF PRAYER. Sign up for the free videos during Lent only at ScienceOfSainthood.com\, and watch them on your own. Email us your mailing address if you’d like to receive the free workbook. This week\, we’ll discuss video Lessons One through Five\, which cover vocal prayer\, general meditation\, affective prayer\, prayer of simplicity\, and infused contemplation. \nFor more information\, contact Karen Page at TuesdayNightBookGroup@gmail.com. \n  \nTuesday\, April 19th\, 7-8:15 pm: Deepen your prayer life powerfully this Easter Season with the help of the revered Doctor of Prayer\, as we study St. Teresa of Avila’s NINE GRADES OF PRAYER.  Sign up for the free video series at ScienceOfSainthood.com\, and watch them on your own.  Email us your mailing address if you’d like to receive the free workbook.  This week\, we’ll continue our discussion of Lessons Ten through Fourteen\, which covers the transition from the prayer of quiet into various grades of prayer of union\, and we hope to welcome an experienced contemplative special guest tonight and/or April 26th. \nFor more information\, contact Karen Page at TuesdayNightBookGroup@gmail.com. \n  \nTuesday\, April 26th\, 7-8:15 pm: Deepen your prayer life powerfully this Easter Season with the help of the revered Doctor of Prayer\, as we study St. Teresa of Avila’s NINE GRADES OF PRAYER.  Sign up for the free videos during Lent only at ScienceOfSainthood.com\, and watch them on your own.  Email us your mailing address if you’d like to receive the free workbook.  This week\, we’ll discuss the experience of watching all the video lessons in this series\, and continue our sharing on the deepening of prayer\, plus we hope to welcome an experienced contemplative special guest. \nFor more information\, contact Karen Page at TuesdayNightBookGroup@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:Tuesday Night Book Group: Sunday In-Person Lent Series
DESCRIPTION:Sundays\, February 26th\, March 19th\, March 26th & April 2nd\, from 12:15 PM to 1:15 PM \nAbandonment to the will of God is the goal of the Christian life. And yet\, surrendering everything over to God remains very difficult for the vast majority of us.  What we need to realize is that while giving ourselves over to God’s perfect will is absolutely necessary\, it’s a gradual\, step-by-step process of growth. \nJoin the Tuesday Night Book Group in person at the Parish House four Sundays during Lent after the 11 AM Masses to discuss what’s been called “The Secret of Peace and Happiness”:  Total Abandonment to God’s Will. \nWe’ll journey through this course of ten 12-to-15-minute video lessons (accessed free via ScienceOfSainthood.com) created by Matthew Leonard. \nOur study will be supplemented by select passages from two spiritual classics: Trustful Surrender to Divine Providence by Fr. Jean Baptiste Saint Jure\, SJ\, & St. Claude de la Colombiere\, SJ\, and Abandonment to Divine Providence by Fr. Jean-Pierre de Caussade\, SJ. \nRegistration is required\, as in-person participation will be limited to 15 people (who will receive free workbooks)\, but everyone can participate virtually via an online discussion group taking place every Tuesday morning during Lent at 9:30 AM. \nTo register to attend and to receive details\, please email “God’s Will” (and your preference of in-person vs. online participation) to tuesdaynightbookgroup@gmail.com. \nAll are welcome.

SUMMARY:Lecture: Depictions of the Last Supper From Duccio to Leonardo

SUMMARY:Tuesday Night Book Group: Lenten Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:As reported on the front page of The New York Times\, Lent 2023 was a time of spiritual revival across America\, whose anniversary will be celebrated at this special event in NYC.  Join the Tuesday Night Book Group on a Lenten Field Trip to attend the “Jesus in Zion” Night of Worship at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Fifth Avenue. Registrants will receive a copy of Bishop Robert Barron’s Lenten Gospel Reflections book as we kick off Lent 2024 together in a powerful way. \nThe worship service will include lively praise & worship music by Raul Santos and the Zion Megaband and vocalists Marisel Rodriguez and Brianne Nealon. Intercessory prayer teams will pray over those who wish to receive prayer.  At 7:30 PM\, the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed with time for Adoration and formation of a “Healing Link\,” before the night ends with Benediction at 8:30 pm. \nAt Jesus in Zion\, we’ll seek to love God through praising and worshiping the Lord with all our hearts and souls and minds and strength and to love one another as Jesus has loved us.  We begin with lively praise and worship set to live music\, as “He who sings prays twice\,” as St. Augustine affirmed.  And we lift our hearts and our arms in praise as St. Paul urged us\, “Glorify God with your bodies!” \nIntercessory prayer teams will pray over those wishing to receive individual healing prayer.  As stated in John 14:12-13\,”Amen\, amen\, I say to you\, whoever believes in me will do the works that I do\, and will do greater ones than these\, because I am going to the Father. And  whatever you ask in my name\, I will do\, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” \nThe heart will adore what is placed before it—so during Adoration we will adore the body and blood of Jesus before our hearts and together praise the Lord of heaven and earth. \nTo the extent to which we put our hearts and souls and minds and strength into praising and worshiping the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament\, it will open up the channels through which the grace of the closing Benediction can penetrate more deeply. \nTo register to attend and to reserve a book\, please email tuesdaynightbookgroup@gmail.com.\n\nAll are welcome.
