DESCRIPTION:Presenter: John Paoletti\, Emeritus Professor of Art History\, Wesleyan University\n\nMichelangelo is back for an encore!  At our final program of this season\, Circle of Friends will again discuss Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1564)\, one of the most famous artists in the history of the world\, and the art he created after his sculpture of David. Michelangelo’s The Last Judgment in the Sistine Chapel represents the biblical Second Coming of Christ and the final separation of humanity into heaven or hell.  It is a dramatic\, massive painting that evokes fear\, awe\, and terror about the soul’s destiny. \nProfessor John Paoletti\, Emeritus Chair of the Art History Department at Wesleyan University\, will decode for us the hidden imagery and meanings in this important painting and its connection to the Protestant Reformation and Michelangelo’s final sculptures of the Dead Christ. Professor Paoletti will also briefly consider Michelangelo’s contemporary poetry as a searing personal reflection of the uncertainties of the Church and its doctrines at the time. \nCome join Circle of Friends for coffee\, cookies\, and conversation\, and learn about the backstory of this brilliant and controversial masterpiece. \nThere is no charge for this program\, although free will donations are appreciated. \nRegistration is required. Please register at silcircleoffriends@gmail.com.

DESCRIPTION:About the Society of St. Vincent de Paul: \nThe St. Lawrence O’Toole Conference of the St. Vincent de Paul Society is one of the oldest SVdP Conferences in the United States. Our Conference has been active since it was formed in December of 1865 (only thirty-two years after the original Society of Saint Vincent de Paul was founded in France). \nOur primary goal is our spiritual growth\, but our common ministry endeavors to alleviate suffering from poverty\, loneliness\, hunger\, homelessness\, and financial desperation. We assist people of all faiths and backgrounds.

DESCRIPTION:Join the Laudato Si’ Ministry as George Rudenauer of the Central Park Conservancy\, and a longtime parishioner of St. Ignatius Loyola\, leads a Spring Walk & Talk in Central Park in celebration of Earth Day. \nWe’ll gather in Wallace Hall following the 11 AM Masses for a brief introduction\, then head into Central Park to explore select highlights\, including the Conservatory Garden and the North Woods. \nAlong the way\, we’ll step away from the pace of city life and immerse ourselves in two distinct yet equally inspiring landscapes—from the formal beauty of the Gardens to the rustic\, woodland serenity of the deep Woods. all while reflecting on the glory of God’s creation! Designed to evoke the Adirondacks\, the 40-acre North Woods offers a peaceful retreat of soaring trees\, winding paths\, and natural water features. We’ll encounter historic arches\, listen to cascading streams\, observe birdlife at the Pool\, and experience the quiet majesty of this urban oasis—God’s gift to us! \nPut on your walking shoes and join us for a Spring Sunday in the Park with George! SVdP has continued serving our neighbors in need through several wars\, the Great Depression\, and the September 11th attacks. \nOur meetings begin with a prayer and spiritual reflection\, followed by an agenda of items geared toward service toward the Poor. We also build and grow in friendship by sharing updates and happenings in our lives. Please consider joining us as we serve our neighbors in need. \nSVdP meets biweekly (year-round) on Wednesdays at 7:00 PM in the Gonzaga Meeting Room at the Parish House.
