Golden Jr. Professor of Catholic Theology at Yale University School of Divinity.   \nProfessor Berger teaches in the fields of liturgical studies and Catholic theology with doctorates in both. Her scholarly interests for many years lay at the intersection of these disciplines with gender theory. More recently\, Professor Berger has turned her attention to questions of liturgy and creation and to liturgical practices in digital worlds. She has an extensive list of publications\, and her work includes a video documentary\, Worship in Women’s Hands (2007). An active Roman Catholic\, Professor Berger regularly writes for the liturgy blog “Pray Tell.” Originally from Germany\, she has been a visiting professor at the Universities of Mainz\, Münster\, Berlin\, and Uppsala. In 2003\, she received the distinguished Herbert Haag Prize for Freedom in the Church. \n Dr. Paul Lakeland is the Aloysius P. Kelley\, S.J.\, Professor of Catholic Studies and founding director of the Center for Catholic Studies at Fairfield University. \nProfessor Lakeland has served for ten years as department chair in Religious Studies and for six years as director of the Honors Program. In 2004\, he was named the inaugural Aloysius P. Kelley\, S.J.\, Professor of Catholic Studies and founding director of the Center for Catholic Studies. From 2010-14 he also served as a visiting faculty member at Yale University Divinity School.  Teaching courses in liberation theology\, Catholic ecclesiology\, and religion and literature\, Dr. Lakeland is the author of ten books. His latest publication is The Wounded Angel: Fiction and the Religious Imagination (2017)\, which received the 2018 College Theology Society Award for the best book in theology.

DESCRIPTION:“Spiritual discernment is the art of finding God’s will for us in the concrete life situations that confront us each day.  It is the link between prayer and action.” \nWhat can St. Ignatius Loyola teach us about the discernment of spirits—also called “motions of the soul” or interior movements (thoughts\, imaginings\, emotions\, inclinations\, desires\, feelings\, repulsions\, and attractions)—that lies at the very heart of Christian life? \nIn his classic book The Discernment of Spirits: An Ignatian Guide for Everyday Living\, Fr. Timothy Gallagher helps us understand the Rules and how their insights are essential for our spiritual growth today. By integrating the Rules and the experience of contemporary people\, Gallagher shows the precision\, clarity\, and insight of Ignatius’s Rules\, as well as the relevance of his thought for spiritual life. DESCRIPTION:As reported on the front page of The New York Times\, Lent 2023 was a time of spiritual revival across America\, whose anniversary will be celebrated at this special event in NYC.  Join the Tuesday Night Book Group on a Lenten Field Trip to attend the “Jesus in Zion” Night of Worship at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Fifth Avenue. Registrants will receive a copy of Bishop Robert Barron’s Lenten Gospel Reflections book as we kick off Lent 2024 together in a powerful way. \nThe worship service will include lively praise & worship music by Raul Santos and the Zion Megaband and vocalists Marisel Rodriguez and Brianne Nealon. Intercessory prayer teams will pray over those who wish to receive prayer.  At 7:30 PM\, the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed with time for Adoration and formation of a “Healing Link\,” before the night ends with Benediction at 8:30 pm. \nAt Jesus in Zion\, we’ll seek to love God through praising and worshiping the Lord with all our hearts and souls and minds and strength and to love one another as Jesus has loved us.  We begin with lively praise and worship set to live music\, as “He who sings prays twice\,” as St. Augustine affirmed.  And we lift our hearts and our arms in praise as St. Paul urged us\, “Glorify God with your bodies!” \nIntercessory prayer teams will pray over those wishing to receive individual healing prayer.  As stated in John 14:12-13\,”Amen\, amen\, I say to you\, whoever believes in me will do the works that I do\, and will do greater ones than these\, because I am going to the Father.
