SUMMARY:Concert | Harvard Glee Club
DESCRIPTION:The Harvard Glee Club’s repertoire has historically drawn from the collegiate\, folk\, and sacred music of Europe and North America\, incorporating pieces dating from the Renaissance onward. This season\, the Glee Club will draw upon a variety of choral traditions\, including that of the country of Georgia for its performances. As both the bearers of Harvard’s beloved football songs and the authors of new traditions\, the Glee Club seeks each year to strike a balance between preservation and innovation. \nAn ensemble of tenor and bass voices\, the Harvard Glee Club is the oldest collegiate choir in the United States. Since their founding in 1858\, they have sought to cultivate and sustain the art of tenor-bass—traditionally men’s—choral music through regular concerts at Harvard’s Sanders Theatre as well as performances around the world\, including at Carnegie Hall\, the Kennedy Center in Washington\, DC\, Disney Concert Hall in LA\, and the Musikverein in Vienna\, Austria\, the Duomo di Firenze in Italy\, and the American Cathedral in Paris\, France. To foster the growth and vitality of tenor-bass choral repertoire\, the Glee Club has commissioned pieces from composers such as Bongani Magatyana\, Molly Joyce\, Morten Lauridsen\, Robert Kyr\, Brandon Waddles\, and Sir John Tavener. \nThis is a free concert. No tickets are needed.

SUMMARY:Lecture at St. Ignatius: A Long Way From Home: Homeless LGBTQ Youth\, Parental Rejection and God’s Merciful Love
DESCRIPTION:Presenter: Mr. Carl Siciliano\, Founder of the Ali Forney Center\, the nation’s largest and most comprehensive housing program for homeless LGBTQ youth \nSurely one of the cruelest disparities faced by LGBTQ people is the unequal access too many have teens have to their parents’ love and support. Carl will discuss the frequent tethering of parental rejection of LGBTQ youths with religious belief and how that contributes to a child welfare crisis in which an LGBTQ youth is far more likely to suffer from homelessness than a straight youth. He will examine this in light of Jesus’s revelation of God’s all-merciful love in the Gospels\, and explore how religious communities might intentionally witness to God’s love for vulnerable LGBTQ youths.
