SUMMARY:Caritas Concerts: Roosevelt André Credit
DESCRIPTION:Special thanks to our Premier Sponsors\, Cornelia and Lawrence Randolph\, for generously supporting this concert.\n“Caritas” means “Christian love of humankind; charity.” It is with this spirit that we present our 2025 Caritas Concert: Roosevelt Credit | Get on Board! Enjoy music\, wine\, food\, and friendship for social justice. All ticket proceeds will benefit the Church of St. Catherine in Bethlehem. If you’d like to learn more about support for this concert\, please contact our Music Development Director\, Christina Kay. Email Christina \nTo purchase tickets\, click here. \nThe Church of St. Catherine is the Roman Catholic parish church within the Shrine of the Nativity in Bethlehem and is the sister parish of the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola. The Shrine of the Nativity was built around the Grotto of the Nativity\, which enshrines the location where Jesus is said to have been born. \nThere are fewer than 500\,000 Palestinian Christians remaining in the Holy Land\, which is less than 1.9% of the entire population across Israel\, Gaza\, and the West Bank. Of that number\, Catholic Palestinians number only about 30\,000 across the West Bank\, a statistic that fluctuates often due to the impacts of war and migration. \nThe Church of St. Catherine is a resilient and thriving Roman Catholic parish serving Palestinian families sacramentally and spiritually\, and also financially\, as Palestinians lack safety net structures that support their social\, welfare\, educational\, and medical realities. All funds raised throughout the duration of this concert will go directly to support the social services programs of the parish\, as well as its two K-12 parish schools. Shukran\, thank you\, for your generosity! \nWe will develop joint programming for parishioners here to engage with parishioners there on a Zoom platform in the future. Service trips will also be planned for the future. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRoosevelt Andre Credit\, “Roo\,” performs music that inspires him. His eclectic music taste has earned him a seat at many tables including Broadway\, The Metropolitan Opera\, The New York Philharmonic Chorus\, The American Symphony Orchestra Chorus\, Jazz at Lincoln Center\, The American Spiritual Ensemble\, and Streaming around the world. Roo sings music that brought him to Broadway and beyond to being an ASCAP Music Award Winner for over five years. He will be joined by WH Choir\, PCC\, Canticum Sacrum\, St John’s Lutheran Church Choir of Nazareth\, PA; and members of The Lappelle Ensemble where Roo is the Founder. The band is a mix of Roo’s Band and St Ignatius Music Department. Come spend some time getting to know Roo and his music over cocktails and food\, while feeding your spiritual soul with laughter and love. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRoosevelt André Credit’s profound and spirited performances have shaped his career both nationally and internationally as a bass/baritone. He hails from Oakland\, California\, and currently hangs his hat in New York. Roosevelt made his Metropolitan Opera debut performing in the chorus of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg and later performed in the chorus of Porgy and Bess. \nRoosevelt’s Broadway Shows and National touring company performances include the Tony Award-winning production of Show Boat\, and the Grammy-nominated and Tony Award-winning production of The Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess. His bass voice was featured in the Oscar-winning movie and soundtrack for 12 Years A Slave. Roosevelt’s original compositions were featured in the documentary Through Their Own Eyes\, and he was music director and composer for some of the music in the award-winning documentary\, Big Little Sis. He can also be seen in his cameo appearance as the Agent in All American Eyes. \nRoosevelt Credit made his Carnegie Hall solo debut performing Schubert’s Mass in G\, and was recently soloist in Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms with Master Voices. He has performed with The New York Philharmonic and Chorus\, Bard Summerscape Opera and Festival\, repeat guest soloist at the New York National Park Service African Burial Ground Juneteenth Remembrance Celebration\, guest soloist with the NYFD/NYPD 911 Remembrance Commemoration Services Ladder 16\, Engine Company 39 19th Precinct\, Alvin Ailey Revelations Vocal Ensemble\, \nSpirit Weekend Soloist in Bangor Maine\, Sing Ebenezer featured artist\, soloist and member of The American Spiritual Ensemble. Roosevelt was also featured as a soloist at the Biennale Arte World Festival in Venice\, and the Verbier Music Festival in Switzerland. Other roles include Booker T. Washington in Ragtime\, Joe in ShowBoat\, Parson Altalk in Treemonisha\, Henry in the White House Cantata\, Jesus/Bass Soloist in the St. Matthew Passion by Bach\, and other oratorios (Fauré Requiem\, Bach’s St. John Passion\, Handel’s Messiah\, Bach’s B Minor Mass\, and Songs of the Slave by Kirke Mechem.) \nRoosevelt is the music director for Broadway Carolers\, a member of the Choirs of St. Ignatius Loyola\, a member of the David Broza Singers\, founder of the Lappelle Choir which was featured at Jazz at Lincoln Center\, and member of Okayplayers’ Soul at the Center Summer Concert opening for Lalah Hathaway at Lincoln Center. His original solo discography includes Letting Go\, Ol’ Time Religion\, and Get On Board. His choral and solo music is published with Morning Star Publications. \nRoosevelt received the Most Distinguished Alumni Fellow Award from Oregon State University. Acknowledged for his humanitarianism and goodwill\, Roosevelt was awarded the Theron Montgomery Award by the Broadway community three times\, recognizing him as a positive role model both on and off stage. Roosevelt is the recipient of several American Society of Composers\, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) awards for his music composition skills\, and he received the most prestigious award of Eagle Scout with the Golden Acorn District\, Troop 254 of California. \nRoosevelt is an active member of his community\, including philanthropic associations with Covenant House\, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids\, Women’s Breast Cancer Association\, and other organizations. \nRoosevelt holds a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Oregon State University\, a Master of Music in Voice and Opera Performance from Northwestern University\, and a Master of Music in Conducting from Northwestern University. \nHe is co-creator of a magical experience called HappyHolidayopolis.com. SUMMARY:Hark!: The Story Behind Our Most Beloved Christmas Carols
DESCRIPTION:PRESENTERS\nFr. Ricardo daSilva\, S.J.\, America Media\nK. Scott Warren\, Director of Music at St. Ignatius Loyola \n\nEveryone loves an encore! Back by popular demand\, Fr. Ricardo da Silva\, S.J.\, Associate Editor at\nAmerica Media and producer of the renowned podcast\, Hark!\, will be accompanied by K. Scott Warren\, St. Ignatius Loyola Music Director\, to uncover more backstories of our beloved Christmas Carols. \nChristmas Carols have a centuries-old tradition. Beginning around the first century\, the music was written to celebrate Christmas and the Nativity. Yet\, not all Christmas Carols began as sacred music. Some have their origins in pagan songs celebrating the Winter Solstice and medieval drinking songs sung in taverns. \nCome and “sing in” this joyous season with Circle of Friends\, and enjoy “Cookies & Carols”\, while expanding our knowledge of how this body of music dedicated to the Feast of Christmas developed. We’ll sing and celebrate Christmas and the community that has become the Circle of Friends. \nRegistration is required at silcircleoffriends@gmail.com.\n\nThere is no fee for this program\, but a free-will offering is suggested.
