SUMMARY:Celebrate America 250th
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Elizabeth Stack returns to Circle of Friends this March to discuss some famous—and not so famous—Irish Americans to celebrate the 250th Anniversary of American Independence. \nDr. Stack will discuss some of the people involved in the American Revolution who had an impact on this country over the ensuing 250 years. In politics\, religion\, education\, labor and culture\, the Irish made incredible contributions to growing America\, and yet some of these Irish Americans have been forgotten. To celebrate Irish American Heritage and Women’s History Month\, Dr. Stack will shine a light on some of these unsung heroes of Irish American history. Come join Circle of Friends and learn about the histories of these unsung Irish Americans. \nThere is no charge for this program. A free will offering is appreciated.

DESCRIPTION:Join us as we explore the impact of the internet and constant screen exposure on our spiritual well-being. \nThis discussion will be led by Parish Council members Kenn Kern and Antonio del Rosario. \nWe will discuss how to identify the “weeds” of digital distraction\, isolation\, and negativity\, and how to intentionally plant the “seeds” of a fulfilling\, faithful life. \nThis discussion is for everyone: grandparents\, parents\, teens\, and all members of our community\, anyone looking for guidance on navigating the complexities of modern connectivity. Come share your thoughts and discover practical strategies for fostering a healthy balance between technology and faith. \nSuggested Pre-Work (Optional): To help ground our conversation\, participants are encouraged (but not required) to explore one of the following in advance: \n• “The Social Dilemma” and “Adolescence” (both on Netflix) \n• Article: “This Is Your Brain in a Digital Age” (Church Life Journal – University of Notre Dame): https://churchlifejournal.nd.edu/articles/this-is-your-brain-in-a-digital-age/ \nPlease RSVP to Antonio del Rosario at adelrosario@bhsusa.com to ensure we have enough seating.

SUMMARY:Skylark: SEVEN Words from the Cross
DESCRIPTION:Join four-time GRAMMY® nominee Skylark for SEVEN Words from the Cross\, the signature program that launched their international reputation and established them as “the cream of the American crop” (BBC Radio 3). Conceived for their acclaimed 2018 debut at London’s prestigious Tenebrae Holy Week Festival\, this deeply moving program traces the scriptural seven last words of Christ through 10 centuries of choral music. From ancient chant and William Billings’ colonial American hymns to stunning contemporary works by Anna Thorvaldsdóttir and Jaakko Mäntyjärvi\, Skylark delivers what Gramophone praised as “passionate purity” and “stunning” ensemble work in a program that is both spiritually profound and musically transcendent. Skylark’s recording of this unique program earned two GRAMMY® nominations. \nTo purchase tickets\, click here.

SUMMARY:Palm Sunday Concert: St. Matthew Passion
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Canticum Sacrum\, Choir of St. Ignatius Loyola\, The Greenwich Village Chamber Singers\, Hunter College Choir and Chamber Singers\, Orchestra of St. Ignatius Loyola\, Parish Community Choir\, and St. Ignatius Loyola Children’s Choirs\n\n\n\n\n\nIf you’d like to learn more about support for this concert\, please contact our Music Associate for Advancement\, Christina Kay. Email Christina \nTo purchase tickets\, click here. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nSupporting Sponsor: Letty Moss-Salentijn\nSt. Matthew Passion\, BWV 244 \nAt the start of Holy Week\, come meditate on the profound music in J.S. Bach’s masterpiece in its complete\, uncut form at our recurring Palm Sunday concert. The St. Matthew Passion is considered one of Bach’s supreme musical achievements\, as it explores the depths of human emotion through reflective arias while shaping the dramatic narrative of Christ’s arrest\, crucifixion\, and death on the cross. The size and scope are enormous\, as it features two choirs\, two orchestras\, congregational chorales\, a Children’s Choir\, vocal soloists\, featured roles of the Evangelist (Brian Giebler)\, Jesus (Enrico Lagasca)\, and Pilate\, and period-styled instruments. The music is sublimely beautiful\, ornate and powerful – reflective of the Passion story itself\, and the closest piece Bach ever came to composing opera. \nIn the Jesuit spirit of education and outreach\, this special performance will engage avocational and student singers from outside the church. The talented\, avocational singers of The Greenwich Village Chamber Singers will perform the role of Choir 1\, and the advanced collegiate music students in the Hunter College Chamber Singers will perform Choir 2. Two of the parish’s volunteer choruses – The Parish Community Choir and Canticum Sacrum – will join the large-scale Hunter College Choir to perform the chorales seated in the congregation\, as would have been heard and experienced during Bach’s time. Advanced vocal soloists from Hunter will perform the arias where possible\, supplemented by professional singers from the Choir of St. Ignatius Loyola. The St. Ignatius Children’s Choirs will perform in two featured choruses in the work\, and the entire performance will be anchored by the all-professional Orchestra of St. Ignatius. \nA true community event\, this performance will mark the start of an ongoing Palm Sunday series that marks the start of Holy Week at the parish. If you are interested in joining any of the avocational choirs involved in this concert\, please email music@saintignatiusloyola.org. \nTicketholders will be welcome to sing along with the choir. Music will be provided via QR code. Bring your tablet!

SUMMARY:Discover the Glories of Central Park
DESCRIPTION:Central Park may be New York’s favorite landscaped space\, but even lifelong New Yorkers are often surprised by the secluded gardens tucked away within this 843-acre floral masterpiece. From the formal elegance of the Conservancy Garden to the poetical beauty of the Shakespeare Garden\, we’ll uncover the history\, backstories\, design secrets\, and spring blooms that make Central Park New York’s most enchanting favorite garden. \nJoin Circle of Friends for a richly illustrated presentation by George Rudenauer\, a highly respected member of the Central Park Conservancy and a beloved Tour Guide of Central Park. George grew up near World’s End Park in Hingham\, Massachusetts\, a Frederick Law Olmstead Park\, and it was from an early age\, George says\, “I truly understood Olmstead’s genius.” George will share highlights about the Spring flowers in bloom\, uncover hidden gems\, and offer suggestions for peaceful ramblings throughout this magical green space. \nThere is no charge for this program\, but a free will donation is appreciated. \n\nRegistration is required.  Please register at silcircleoffriends@gmail.com
