SUMMARY:Tuesday Night Book Group: Sunday In-Person Lent Series
DESCRIPTION:Sundays\, February 26th\, March 19th\, March 26th & April 2nd\, from 12:15 PM to 1:15 PM \nAbandonment to the will of God is the goal of the Christian life. And yet\, surrendering everything over to God remains very difficult for the vast majority of us.  What we need to realize is that while giving ourselves over to God’s perfect will is absolutely necessary\, it’s a gradual\, step-by-step process of growth. \nJoin the Tuesday Night Book Group in person at the Parish House four Sundays during Lent after the 11 AM Masses to discuss what’s been called “The Secret of Peace and Happiness”:  Total Abandonment to God’s Will. \nWe’ll journey through this course of ten 12-to-15-minute video lessons (accessed free via ScienceOfSainthood.com) created by Matthew Leonard. \nOur study will be supplemented by select passages from two spiritual classics: Trustful Surrender to Divine Providence by Fr. Jean Baptiste Saint Jure\, SJ\, & St. Claude de la Colombiere\, SJ\, and Abandonment to Divine Providence by Fr. Jean-Pierre de Caussade\, SJ. \nRegistration is required\, as in-person participation will be limited to 15 people (who will receive free workbooks)\, but everyone can participate virtually via an online discussion group taking place every Tuesday morning during Lent at 9:30 AM. \nTo register to attend and to receive details\, please email “God’s Will” (and your preference of in-person vs. online participation) to tuesdaynightbookgroup@gmail.com. \nAll are welcome.

SUMMARY:Tuesday Night Book Group: Saturday Midday Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:Join the Tuesday Night Book Group on a Saturday Midday Field Trip to hear a one-hour talk on St. Therese of Lisieux (1873-1897)\, author of the perennial bestselling memoir Story of a Soul. New York Times bestselling author and happiness expert Gretchen Rubin writes\, “I had never heard of St. Therese of Lisieux\, which is like not knowing about the Beatles. She’s a superstar saint…Mother Teresa [of Calcutta] took her name from Therese.” \nMore than anyone else\, St. Therese is said to have left a decisive mark on Catholic spirituality over the past century. Though she died at age 24\, St. Therese of Lisieux’s contributions have been so remarkable that she was named one of only 37 Doctors of the Church and one of only 4 women among them. \nAt first glance\, many have made the mistake of dismissing Therese’s writings as “overly sentimental\,” but countless intellectuals—including Dorothy Day\, Thomas Merton\, Jacques Philippe\, and Edith Stein—have returned to a deeper examination of her work to deem her a warrior: “though her battles are for love by means of love\, for peace by means of peace\,” in the words of Hans Urs von Balthasar. \nLikewise\, Bishop Robert Barron reassessed her as a rather “tough cookie” who\, because humility is truth\, understood who she was in the sight of God and worked within that grace with a pragmatic directness that came to define her “Little Way”: a willingness to\, in every moment\, in every situation ask the central question of surrender—“What is the demand of love?”—and then choose it. \nAfter the Noon talk by a former Carthusian monk\, there will be an optional 1 PM to 3 PM guided meditation to allow St. Therese of Lisieux’s writings to take us deeper into the interior life and to help us walk the path of grace in trustful surrender to God’s merciful love. At 3 PM\, there will be an informal reception to enjoy eclairs—St. Therese’s favorite dessert\, which she is said to have requested on her deathbed—and Carmelite monk-roasted Mystic Monk coffee! \nTo register to attend and to receive details re: the Upper East Side location\, please email tuesdaynightbookgroup@gmail.com\, with “St. Therese” in the subject line.

SUMMARY:Tuesday Night Book Group: Sunday In-Person Spring Series
DESCRIPTION:Abandonment to the will of God is the goal of the Christian life.  And yet\, surrendering everything over to God remains very difficult for the vast majority of us.  What we need to realize is that while giving ourselves over to God’s perfect will is absolutely necessary\, it’s a gradual\, step-by-step process of growth. \nJoin the Tuesday Night Book Group to discuss what’s been called “The Secret of Peace and Happiness”:  Total Abandonment to God’s Will. \nIf you’re joining us for the first time\, you can catch up on the previous video lessons in the series free via ScienceOfSainthood.com before April 16th. We’ll be finishing the series by watching and discussing Lessons 8\, 9\, and 10 together. \nOur study has been supplemented by handouts featuring select passages from three spiritual classics: \n– Abandonment to Divine Providence by Fr. Jean-Pierre de Caussade\, S.J.\n– Trustful Surrender to Divine Providence by Fr. Jean Baptiste Saint Jure\, S.J.\, and St. Claude de la Colombiere\, S.J.\n– Into Your Hands\, Father: Abandoning Ourselves to the God Who Loves Us by Wilfrid Stinissen. \nRegistration is required\, as in-person participation is limited to 15 people (free workbook to be provided). \nTo register to attend and to receive details\, please email tuesdaynightbookgroup@gmail.com with “God’s Will” in the subject line.
