SUMMARY:Tuesday Night Book Group: Discovering Our Home in the Trinity
DESCRIPTION:If you want to know the meaning of life\, if you long to know who—and Whose—you are\, if your heart aches to love and to be loved\, join us to learn what one author calls “the best-kept secret of our faith.” In his provocative new book The Father’s House: Discovering Our Home in the Trinity\, Fr. James Brent of the Thomistic Institute sheds light on the topic of the indwelling Trinity: “Through baptism\, the Trinity comes to dwell in our hearts in a whole new way\, but most of the baptized are unaware of it.” He asserts that it’s time for the Church on earth to wake up to the truth of the indwelling Trinity—and provides a path to that awakening. \nSimultaneously\, we will also view and discuss the new video series “Liturgy & Life: Unveiling the Mystical Movement of the Mass” (L&L). The ultimate source of the liturgy is the Most Holy Trinity—providing the liturgy as the font from which all the power of the Church flows and as the mechanism by which we are lifted up into the mystery of God. \nThe synergy of our discussion of this book and video series promises more than mere information: a truly powerful and transformative Lenten/Easter experience! \nDiscussions begin at 7 PM and typically run 75-90 minutes. \nUpcoming Sessions\nTues\, March 5: TFH book Ch. 1: The Holy Trinity; L&L video-Lesson 1: Welling Up to Eternal Life\nTues\, March 12: TFH book Ch. 2: To Be Jesus Christ; L&L video-Lesson 2: Shadow\, Image & Reality\nTues\, March 19: TFH book Ch. 3: The Spirit of Love; L&L video-Lesson 3: Giving & Receiving\nTues\, March 26: TFH book Ch. 4: The Pathos of the Heart\nTues\, April 2: TFH book Ch. 5: The Practicals of the Way; L&L video-Lesson 4: The Exodus Out of Self\nTues\, April 9: TFH book Ch. 6: The Beatitudes; L&L video-Lesson 5: From Sacrifice to Sacrament\nTues\, April 16: TFH book Ch. 7: The Father’s House; L&L video-Lesson 6: Preparing to Participate in the Mystery\nTues\, April 23: TFH book Ch. 8: The Mystery of Filial Adoption\nTuesday\, April 30: Live Q&A and discussion on “How to Come to Know God Personally for Yourself” with Fr. James Brent\, OP\, of The Thomistic Institute\, author of The Father’s House and host of the new YouTube series “Contemplata: For Contemplative Souls.” \nRequired book: Fr. James Brent’s The Father’s House: Discovering Our Home in the Trinity \nRequired video series: Matthew Leonard’s “Liturgy & Life: Unveiling the Mystical Movement of the Mass” (sign up free at ScienceOfSainthood.com with an email address) and recommended workbook available on Amazon \nTo register and receive the Zoom link for this book/video discussion series\, please email “Trinity” to TuesdayNightBookGroup@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:Lecture: Freedom from Fear—Then and Now
DESCRIPTION:PRESENTER\nSen. Angus King\, United States Senator from Maine \nFreedom from fear was Roosevelt’s fourth Freedom. Expressed in the context of war\, he focused on the weapons of destruction which then had the world in their grip. But he also understood better than most the deeper implications of fear and its power to distort and disrupt our lives\, up to\, and sadly including\, in our own times. \nAbout the Presenter\nIn January 2013\, Angus King was sworn in as Maine’s first Independent United States Senator. Senator King is a member of the Armed Services Committee\, the Select Committee on Intelligence\, the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources\, and the Committee on Veterans’ Affairs. Prior to taking office\, Senator King served two terms as the Governor of Main.

SUMMARY:13 Drivers' Licenses
DESCRIPTION:Join us as the Ignatian Interfaith Ministry commemorates Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) with an extraordinary story of discovery\, exploration\, reflection and reconciliation. \nIn February 2017\, a cache of 13 driver’s licenses\, confiscated by Nazi authorities from Jewish citizens in 1938\, was found in an envelope in a government office in the small Bavarian town of Lichtenfels\, Germany. The district administrator gave them to his former history teacher\, thinking it might provide a research opportunity for his students. And it did. The students were able to locate relatives of many of these individuals in the United States\, Israel\, and Argentina who assisted in filling in the missing details. Among the descendants was Lisa Salko\, who will be leading this presentation\, as she takes us on an emotional journey of hope. \n\nTo register\, email ignatianinterfaithministry@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:Miracles Do Happen: God Can Do the Impossible
DESCRIPTION:Do you believe in miracles? \nSister Briege McKenna\, OSC\, does. After entering an Irish convent at age 15\, she was instantaneously healed at age 24 of crippling arthritis that had confined her to a wheelchair—and shortly thereafter she was given the gift of healing. It also shares her insights about faith\, the power of the Eucharist\, and the importance of prayer. Most of all\, it points the way to a closer relationship with Jesus\, greater knowledge of his love\, and deeper faith in his power to do the impossible. \nJoin the Tuesday Night Book Group on a field trip for this unique opportunity to hear Sister Briege speak in person on Tuesday\, May 21st\, at 7 PM at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. \nThen join us on Zoom on Tuesday\, May 28th\, at 7 PM to discuss Sr. Briege’s book Miracles Do Happen. \nZoom discussions typically run 75-90 minutes. \nUpcoming Sessions\nTues\, May 21st: In-person talk by Sr. Briege McKenna at St. Patrick’s Cathedral\nTues\, May 28th: Zoom meeting to discuss Miracles Do Happen \nRequired book: Sr. Briege McKenna’s book Miracles Do Happen \nRecommended advance viewing: This YouTube interview with Sister Briege at St. Patrick’s Cathedral from May 2023. \nTo register and receive the Zoom link for this series\, please email “SISTER BRIEGE” to TuesdayNightBookGroup@gmail.com. If you’re able to join us at St. Patrick’s\, please include your cell phone number and we’ll let you know where we end up sitting.

SUMMARY:LME Day of Reflection: Forgiveness and Reconciliation
DESCRIPTION:PRESENTER: Fr. Thomas Feely\, S.J.\, Superior of the Xavier Jesuit Community\, New York \nWe invite you to join us for a Day of Reflection. This is the final LME program of the 2023-2024 season\, featuring a remarkable guest\, Fr. Thomas Feely. \nBefore his current assignment as the Superior of the Xavier Jesuit Community in New York City\, Fr. Feely served as Parish Administrator at St. Ignatius Loyola. He was also the moderator of LME\, presenting and leading several of our programs. \nBefore embarking on a new assignment\, LME and the St. Ignatius Community are privileged and deeply appreciative to welcome Fr. Thomas Feely as our esteemed presenter. His profound insights and extensive experience promise to make this Day of Reflection a truly enriching experience. \n“ Forgiveness is basic to Christian life. This program will consider what forgiveness entails. We will examine what forgiveness is and what it is not\, how the process of forgiveness proceeds\, how forgiveness can lead to reconciliation\, and why there are times when reconciliation is impossible even after forgiveness has been given.” — Rev. Thomas Feely\, S.J. \nTo register\, visit tinyurl.com/LMESpring2024. Registration is required.

SUMMARY:Tuesday Night Book Group: Contemplative Symposium
DESCRIPTION:Join members of the Tuesday Night Book Group for this rare opportunity to learn and be led toward contemplative prayer by leading experts and authors at the August 8-11 Contemplative Symposium at St. Joseph’s Seminary in Yonkers (33 minutes by train from Grand Central)\, ST. ELIZABETH OF THE TRINITY: The Mystery of Christian Prayer.  \nThis saint’s wisdom is profoundly relevant for the spiritual life today in our noisy culture\, as she reminds us of God’s power to establish in us a profound and peaceful stillness as we receive\, trust\, and surrender to God’s love for us. Authentic contemplative prayer extends the ways we participate in the mystery of God. \nMore than a dozen speakers and presenters include Fr. Donald Haggerty\, who has led retreats for the Missionaries of Charity for decades and is the author of several books including Saint John of the Cross: Master of Contemplation; Dr. Anthony Lilles\, author of Fire from Above: Christian Contemplation and Mystical Wisdom; Julie Enzler\, who translated the book Elizabeth of the Trinity: A Life of Praise to God; Fr. Ignatius John Schweitzer\, who lived in silence as a Carthusian monk for six years until he discerned a call from the Lord to teach others about the spiritual and mystical life; and contemplative nun Sr. Armelle\, who will share her icons and artwork and lead a meditation on St. Elisabeth’s “Trinity Whom I Adore.” \nThe four-day Symposium is $200. One-day passes are $75\, and half-day passes $50. Prices include all meals. Register on Eventbrite.com. All are welcome. \nEmail tuesdaynightbookgroup@gmail.com to connect with others who will also be attending.

SUMMARY:Crossing the Line: Finding America in the Borderland
DESCRIPTION:Presenter: Author Sarah Towle \nSarah Towle\, author of Crossing the Line: Finding America in the Borderlands\, will be visiting Regis and making a special appearance here at St. Ignatius. \nCrossing the Line: Finding America in the Borderlands charts Sarah’s journey from outrage to activism to abolition as she exposes\, layer by “broken” layer\, the global deterrence to detention to deportation complex that is failing everyone—save the profiteers and demagogues who benefit from it. \nDeftly weaving together oral storytelling\, history\, and memoir\, Sarah illustrates how the US has led the retreat from post-WWII commitments to protecting human rights. Yet within the web of normalized cruelty\, she finds hope and inspiration in the extraordinary acts of ordinary people who prove\, every day\, there is a better way. By amplifying their voices and celebrating their efforts\, Sarah reveals that we can welcome with dignity those most in need of safety and compassion. In unmasking the real root causes of the so-called “crisis” in human migration\, she urges us to act before we travel much farther down our current course—one which history will not soon forgive or forget.
