DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Cathy Kaufman\nAdjunct Professor in the Food Studies Department at The New School\, specializing in food history and culture\n\nIn his October 3\, 1863 Proclamation\, President Abraham Lincoln invited all Americans to observe the last Thursday of November to praise “our beneficent God” and to pray for an end to the Civil War. This Day of Thanksgiving became a national holiday to gather together to reflect on our blessings and share in the culinary traditions surrounding this special day.  But there is a backstory to our Thanksgiving holiday and how it changed into the holiday we celebrate today. \nCome join Circle of Friends for a “Friendsgiving” as Cathy Kaufman shares with us the history and pleasures of our Thanksgiving holiday. \nA light lunch will be served. \nThe Society of St. Vincent de Paul is running a food drive in November to support the food pantry of the Church of the Ascension in East Harlem. We are a parish ministry of\, by\, and for our lesbian\, gay\, bisexual\, and transgender sisters and brothers in Christ and those who love and support them. Our ministry extends to\, and embraces\, the mission of the entire parish\, our home. \nEach year our ministry hosts events that aim to foster mutual respect\, compassion\, and sensitivity between our parish and the wider community on LGBT issues through education and dialogue. DESCRIPTION:Join the Ignatian Interfaith Ministry as we welcome V. Rev Archimandrite Chrysostomos Gilbert\, Archdiocesan Cathedral Dean of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral. \nFr. Chrysostomos will be speaking to us on the Orthodox Feast of the Entrance of the Theotokos (Mother of God) into the Temple in Jerusalem as a young girl. While not recorded in the Gospels\, this fireside chat discussion will explore the Feast and what we can learn from it as we prepare our hearts in Advent to “Enter the Temple” at Christmas. \nReception to follow at 8 PM. \nTo RSVP\, email ignatianinterfaithministry@gmail.com. \nAbout the Presenter \nUpon ordination to the Holy Deaconate\, Father Chrysostomos served under His Eminence Metropolitan Barnabas of Neapolis and Stavroupolis in Thessaloniki\, Greece before returning to New York in September 2012 to work for the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America in the Office of the Chancellor. Father Chrysostomos was later ordained into the Holy Priesthood and was eventually given the Offikion of Archimandrite. He also served as Proistamenos of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Manhattan. \nFather Chrysostomos is currently the Dean of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New York. \n
