SUMMARY:Skylark: SEVEN Words from the Cross
DESCRIPTION:Join four-time GRAMMY® nominee Skylark for SEVEN Words from the Cross\, the signature program that launched their international reputation and established them as “the cream of the American crop” (BBC Radio 3). Conceived for their acclaimed 2018 debut at London’s prestigious Tenebrae Holy Week Festival\, this deeply moving program traces the scriptural seven last words of Christ through 10 centuries of choral music. From ancient chant and William Billings’ colonial American hymns to stunning contemporary works by Anna Thorvaldsdóttir and Jaakko Mäntyjärvi\, Skylark delivers what Gramophone praised as “passionate purity” and “stunning” ensemble work in a program that is both spiritually profound and musically transcendent. Skylark’s recording of this unique program earned two GRAMMY® nominations. \nTo purchase tickets\, click here.

SUMMARY:Organ Recital: Felix Hell
DESCRIPTION:No Strings Attached: Bach\, Barber & Beethoven Reimagined for Organ \nWhat happens when you take some of the most powerful music ever written — and give it to one performer\, on one instrument\, with no strings attached? \nInternational concert organist Felix Hell brings together three musical titans in a program of electrifying transcriptions: Bach’s triumphant Sinfonia from Cantata 29\, Barber’s haunting Adagio for Strings\, and Beethoven’s groundbreaking Fifth Symphony in its entirety—all reimagined for solo organ. \nMore than a showcase of virtuosity\, this concert is a fresh encounter with iconic composers of classical music. The King of Instruments becomes orchestra\, conductor\, and soloist in one\, revealing new colors\, textures\, and sounds in music you thought you knew. \nThis is not your typical organ recital. It’s a symphony concert on a single set of hands and feet. \nTo purchase tickets\, click here. \nA native of Germany\, Felix Hell is one of the most sought after concert organists in the world. He has been featured as a recitalist and concerto soloist in more than 1000 concerts throughout North America\, Europe\, Asia and Australia. The American Organist raved that he “sets standards that older and honored players would struggle to equal.” \nPast venues include Disney Hall in Los Angeles\, Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco\, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York\, the Esplanade in Singapore\, Dewan Filharmonik Petronas in Kuala Lumpur\, Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow\, Great Philharmonic Hall in St. Petersburg\, National Center for the Arts Weiwuying in Kaohsiung\, National Theatre and Concert Hall in Taipei\, as well as Yongsan Art Hall in Seoul. Furthermore\, Mr. Hell has performed in the cathedrals of Berlin\, Regensburg\, Riga\, Bogota\, Reykyavik\, Munich\, Ulm\, Speyer\, Worms\, and Passau.\n\nMr. Hell has been concerto soloist with the Baltimore Symphony\, Kaohsiung Symphony Orchestra\, Busan Philharmonic\, McGill Chamber Orchestra\, Charleston Symphony Orchestra\, New England Conservatory Orchestra\, Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra\, National Academy Orchestra of Canada\, Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra\, Pfalztheaterorchester Kaiserslautern\, and the Deutsche Streicherphilharmonie.\n\nFelix Hell’s discography now includes 13 CDs\, with his latest recording\, “Organ Fantasies: Masterworks by Bach\, Liszt and Reger\,” marking a significant addition to his celebrated body of work. Published in October 2023 by Universal Music Group\, this exceptional album was recorded at the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts Weiwuying\, showcasing the largest Pipe Organ in Asia. The instrument\, a grand creation with 127 stops and 9\,085 pipes\, represents the magnum opus of German organ builder Klais. This album continues Felix Hell’s tradition of exploring the depth and breadth of organ music\, bringing both historical reverence and innovative interpretation to the forefront. \nHis project “Music Across America” allows him to travel with his own Touring Organ\, performing organ concertos and recitals in spaces that do not house pipe organs\, liberating the instrument from its historic confines. \nFelix Hell is known for his diverse and innovative programming\, drawing upon a repertoire encompassing five centuries. Furthermore\, he has received global recognition for his marathon performances of the entire organ works of J.S. Bach\, which encompass about 250 compositions and close to 20 hours of performance time. He has since performed the complete Bach cycle four times\, most recently in 2013 in Seoul\, Korea. \nMr. Hell is an avid supporter of new music for organ and frequently collaborates with composers. \nFelix Hell studied at the Juilliard School in New York\, the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia (BM)\, the Peabody Institute in Baltimore (AD\, MM\, DMA). In 2007\, he received Johns Hopkins University’s prestigious Outstanding Graduate Award. \nFor more than 20 years Mr. Hell was Organ Artist Associate at Saint Peter’s Lutheran Church in Manhattan. He is currently Artist in Residence at the United Lutheran Seminary in Gettysburg. In 2011\, Felix Hell was appointed Distinguished Visiting Artist at Kosin University in Busan\, South Korea. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRepertoire\nNo Strings Attached: Bach\, Barber & Beethoven Reimagined for Organ \nJohann Sebastian Bach (1685–1750)\nSinfonia from Cantata No. 29\, arr. By the glow of candlelight\, voices soar in harmony\, weaving together centuries of music that illuminate the joy\, mystery\, and spirit of Christmas. From moments of hushed reverence to rousing celebration\, this beloved program offers a musical embrace of the season’s most cherished sentiments. \nPhoto by Stephen K. Mack. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe GRAMMY® Award-winning vocal ensemble Chanticleer has been hailed as “the world’s reigning male chorus” by The New Yorker\, and is known around the world as “an orchestra of voices” for its wide-ranging repertoire and dazzling virtuosity. Founded in San Francisco in 1978 by singer and musicologist Louis Botto\, Chanticleer quickly took its place as one of the most prolific recording and touring ensembles in the world\, selling over one million recordings and performing thousands of live concerts to audiences around the world. \nChanticleer’s repertoire is rooted in the renaissance\, and has continued to expand to include a wide range of classical\, gospel\, jazz\, popular music\, and a deep commitment to the commissioning of new compositions and arrangements. SUMMARY:A Chanticleer Christmas
DESCRIPTION:A Chanticleer Christmas is a treasured holiday tradition\, bringing the beauty and wonder of the season to audiences near and far. The ensemble has committed much of its vast recording catalogue to these commissions\, garnering GRAMMY® Awards for its recording of Sir John Tavener’s “Lamentations & Praises”\, and the ambitious collection of commissioned works entitled “Colors of Love”. Chanticleer is the recipient of the Dale Warland/Chorus America Commissioning Award and the ASCAP/Chorus America Award for Adventurous Programming\, and its Music Director Emeritus Joseph H. SUMMARY:Interfaith Prayer Service for Migrants
DESCRIPTION:As a people of faith\, we join together to lift up in prayer the migrants\, refugees\, and asylum seekers in our midst. \nIn these troubled times\, we remember the admonition from the Book of Leviticus: “The alien who resides among you shall be to you as the citizen among you; you shall love the alien as yourself…” [19:34]. And we\, of course\, remember that Jesus told us that we will be judged by whether we have welcomed the stranger. \nPlease join us in prayer and solidarity with all who dwell among us as aliens in a foreign land seeking our welcome.

SUMMARY:Concert | Westminster Cathedral Choir\, London
DESCRIPTION:Westminster Cathedral Choir\, London\nSimon Johnson\, Director \nWestminster Cathedral Choir is widely considered to be one of the finest choirs in the world. Since its foundation in 1901\, it has occupied a unique and enviable position at the forefront of English church music\, not least because of the ground-breaking work of its first Master of Music\, Sir Richard Terry\, who revived the great works of the English and continental Renaissance composers. \nThe choir’s fame grew under Terry as it presented this forgotten music\, transforming attitudes to the repertoire. Innovation continued under George Malcolm who pioneered the development of the choir’s sound along continental lines\, resulting in a choir that was truly revolutionary in both what and how it sang. The choir continues these traditions today\, and it remains the only Catholic Cathedral choir in the world to sing daily Mass and Vespers. More recent holders of the post have included Colin Mawby\, Stephen Cleobury\, David Hill\, James O’Donnell\, and Martin Baker. Since September 2021\, the choir has been directed by Simon Johnson. \nFor tickets\, click here.

SUMMARY:Organ Recital | Anna Lapwood
DESCRIPTION:“She had rightly become ‘the world’s most visible organist’.” – The New York Times \n“This rising star in classical music is fighting for more women to play an instrument which has long been considered a male occupation: the organ.” – Classic FM \nThis program brings together old and new\, situating the music of Duruflé\, Bach & Debussy alongside contemporary music by composers such as Hans Zimmer & Olivia Belli. The whole program is inspired by the changing night sky\, whether through the lens of space travel with music from Hans Zimmer’s Score to Interstellar\, or through the world of dreams with Debussy’s Clair de Lune. Above all\, we will be exploring the capacity of the organ to act as a storyteller\, its many voices narrating stories in vivid technicolor. The St. Ignatius Loyola Children’s Choirs will also play a part in this exciting concert! \nAnna Lapwood MBE is an associate artist of the Royal Albert Hall (London) and holds the position of Director of Music at Pembroke College (Cambridge). She was awarded an Associateship of the Royal Academy of Music and the prestigious Gamechanger Award from the Royal Philharmonic Society in 2023. \nFor tickets\, click here.
