The Ultimate (Catholic!) Insider’s Guide to the Metropolitan Museum of Art: Part II
September 20 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
All parishioners and their guests are invited to join us for Part II of this inspiring journey through the past 5000 years of humanity’s search for God through art, guided by authors Steve and Evelyn Auth, who—over the past decade—have led art lovers on their unique faith-based tour of 65 masterpieces on display at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Discovering that art attracts people to faith, their book PILGRIMAGE TO THE MUSEUM: Man’s Search for God Through Art and Time brings their insider’s tour to all. Last fall’s event drew nearly 150 guests to Wallace Hall, and the Auths are back to lead us through a whole new set of masterpieces in their presentation “Encounter | Communion | Transformation: The Eucharist in Art.”
Their talk and slide presentation will take us on a provocative and colorful journey through masterpieces by the likes of Caravaggio, Dali, El Greco, Giotto, Hopper, Picasso, and Rembrandt, including the paintings “Christ Healing the Blind Man,” “Supper at Emmaus,” “Opening of the Fifth Seal,” and the sculpture of St. Teresa in Ecstasy, which explore notions of spiritual communion and union.
The Auths will share the highs and lows of our determined quest through masterpieces that allow us to encounter the profound truths that lead many along the path to union with God.
A limited number of copies of PILGRIMAGE TO THE MUSEUM will be available at the event, or you are welcome to bring your own copies to be signed by the authors at the reception to follow.
Steve, a graduate of Princeton and the Harvard Business School, is also the author of THE MISSIONARY OF WALL STREET: From Managing Money to Saving Souls on the Streets of New York, about the sidewalk mission he and Evelyn run, which has distributed tens of thousands of Rosaries outside St. Patrick’s Cathedral and the Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral in Manhattan, resulting in countless reversions and conversions to faith.
