Our Parish

“Whatever you are doing, that which makes you feel the most alive...that is where God is.”

St. Ignatius of Loyola

As one of 66 Jesuit parishes operating in the United States, the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola (New York) is among the largest and most vibrant. Culturally and religiously renowned for its inclusivity, intellectual rigor, and top-rated music and faith formation programs, the Parish is home to more than 6,000 parishioners and 34 active ministries dedicated to prayer, community-building, and social justice. The parish is also home to an annual lecture series & concerts and now offers a mix of popular livestreamed and in-person Masses.

Located between Central Park and Park Avenue on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, the church attracts a diverse mix of New Yorkers and families from across the metropolitan region—from titans of industry and the arts to young career professionals and older adults. The Parish’s inclusivity also catalyzes a dynamic range of services and programs focusing on children, teens, young adults, and families, and it collaborates with other Christian Churches and non-Christian religious congregations across New York to reach those in need. Since its founding in the mid-1860s by a group of primarily Irish Catholic and German immigrants, the Church has grown into a highly active, multicultural symbol of unity and leadership to evolve, expand and meet the challenges and spiritual needs of a rapidly changing and challenging world.

Mission and Values

The love of Christ impels us to welcome all,
to worship joyfully and pray fervently,
to walk together with those in need.
and to reverence God in the wonder of Creation.

Rooted in our Catholic faith and values, and also, as a Jesuit Parish, we practice the art of Ignatian Spirituality — a spirituality for everyday life. It shows us how God is present in our world and active in our lives. It is a pathway to a deeper journey in prayer, good decisions guided by keen discernment, and an active life of service to others.
