Lay Ministers’ Enrichment: Spring 2022 Session

April 23, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 12:30 pm

Join us for a day of reflection and faith sharing guided by Joe Delaney, our presenter. Joe’s many accomplishments include serving as the Chairman of the Board for the Catholic Charities of Staten Island and Chairman of the New York Development Board for Support Our Aging Religious (SOAR).

Our speaker’s presentation will challenge us to reflect upon the outcome of remaining silent when our brothers are in need. The first part of the presentation asks us to contemplate “What is the cost of discipleship?” and bring us to a realization that “silence is not the answer but instead, to listen to his voice and act upon his words.” Using the events surrounding the Vatican’s failure to publish Father John Lafarge’s findings on Nazism before the outbreak of the Second World War, our presenter offers a sobering picture of how we failed to care for our Jewish brothers by remaining silent.

The second part of the presentation will highlight the changes in attitude towards antisemitism, initiated by Pope John XXIII and continued by every Pope since, including Pope Francis.

Following the presentation, the audience is invited to take part in faith-sharing sessions, which will encourage us to consider how our own actions can promote the spirit of global brotherhood acclaimed in “Fratelli Tutti”.
