Lenten Week of Service
March 5 - March 16
As part of the Parish Implementation Plan, the Parish is hosting a Lenten Week of Service. On Ash Wednesday, you can affix a ribbon to the Lenten Cross symbolizing your service commitment. Activities include food for the hungry, outreach to the unhoused, a Dorothy Day Pilgrimage, a Poverty Simulation, a panel discussion on the trip to the southern border, and more.

Walk in the steps of Dorothy Day. The tour begins at Union Square, the birthplace of the Catholic Worker movement. Learn about Dorothy Day’s radical devotion to Christ’s teaching. This is a kitchen that cooks and delivers over 17,000 medically tailored meals each weekday thanks to the help of their volunteers, who work in the kitchen and package meals. A Parish Council member will lead the team. Registration required. Email at [email protected].

Our Homeless Outreach is an opportunity for meaningful encounters with our unhoused neighbors. We gather in Wallace Hall to assemble bags that include a sandwich, water, fruit, and other snacks and then go out in teams of 2 or more to various neighborhoods to introduce ourselves to the homeless and offer them lunch. The goal of this outreach is to make a connection with unhoused people, to make eye contact, and to let them know we see them. Registration required. Email at [email protected].

HOMELESSNESS AWARENESS FOR KIDS
Discussion & pack hygiene kits

City Relief will give a short presentation on what it means to be homeless, and then the children will pack hygiene bags and include a short handwritten note. The event is organized by ISJ, Family Ministry, and the Girl Scouts.
