Tuesday Night Book Group: Saturday Retreat | Field Trip

Join the Tuesday Night Book Group on a Saturday Field Trip for the rare opportunity to make a Day Retreat in a setting that will take us back centuries in time into ancient contemplative traditions and practices.

We will be led in prayer and meditation at The Monastery of Our Lady of the Rosary in Summit, New Jersey (accessible by car or train with an 8-minute walk), which expresses the 800-year-old monastic life in a way that is rooted in tradition yet lived in the 21st century. This community is made up of about 20 nuns ranging in age from 26 to 91, with a median age of 36.

The Retreat schedule:
1 pm – Guided Eucharistic Meditation, with preaching, music, and silence
3 pm – Prayer with the Dominican Nuns: None (Midafternoon prayer)
3:15 pm – Divine Mercy Chaplet
3:30 pm – Rosary for the intentions of Our Lady of Fatima
4 pm – Social gathering with light refreshments
5:30 pm – Prayer with the Nuns: Solemn Vespers (Evening prayer)
6 pm – Eucharistic Benediction

You’re welcome for as little or as much of the day’s events as you’d like.

In the context of the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, we will be led in a guided meditation through key passages of the Gospel of John. The preaching will be interspersed with silence and with live contemporary music as we ponder on the mystery of Jesus Christ as present and active in our midst and on Our Lady of Fatima’s call to us today.
