Ukraine, the Holy See, and the Just War Tradition

November 29 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

PRESENTER: Pavlo Smytsnyuk
Ukrainian Catholic Theologian & Fellow at Princeton University

Pavlo Smytsnyuk will return to St. Ignatius Loyola to offer a presentation on the subject, Ukraine, the Holy See and the Just War Tradition. Since the Second Vatican Council, the Holy See has taken an increasingly strong position in rejection of war because of the devastation, civilian casualties, and large-scale deaths of combatants that are characteristic of modern warfare.

The war in Ukraine presents a unique challenge to the Holy See as Ukraine responds to the invasion of its territory by Russian forces.

Pavlo Smytsnyuk brings a unique perspective to this issue, so his talk should be both timely and provocative.
